No Angels In Providence is an American rock artist from Providence, Rhode Island US created by composer Joshua A. Runk.

No Angels In Providence was created during a solo acoustic tour Joshua Runk was playing in Southern New England in January 2019. While performing live Joshua Aaron Runk wrote and recorded the demo album 'Story of Hopefully'. Those songs would lead towards the first official studio record by No Angels In Providence titled 'Rock & Roll No Matter What They Say'. The title of the album is a lyrical reference within the song “The Day You Died” which officially became “Learning Rock & Roll (The Day You Died)”. The album was produced in various places where Joshua could find a piano, different percussion and string instruments, and a location that would eventually become Starlight Studios in North Smithfield, Rhode Island.

The album spawned five singles: “Generation Alone”, “Will It Hurt”, “Wish”, “When Days Won’t Shine”, “A Girl Named Lee. A special edition compact disc for the songs “Killers” and “Lasting Goodbye” was also released and published by J.J. Starlight Music to support the ‘Rock & Roll No Matter What They Say’ album release. Before Joshua Runk attended to any official singles for this first album, the songs “Killers” and “Lasting Goodbye” were mixed from March through May of 2020 to make sure the sound production matched the other tracks. Many instruments were borrowed or used on the fly to record making the album unique and a fun collaboration with musicians who had access to piano, percussion, and guitar instruments. These singles were made available for digital stores and streaming before the full LP debuted July 20, 2020.

Writing began in August 2020 for a second studio record. The sophomore album for No Angels In Providence titled 'Angel Made Hurt' was recorded and produced from October 2020 through April 2021. Singer/writer Joshua Runk wanted to take more time with production of the album. The following five official singles were released on behalf of Angel Made Hurt recording sessions: “Lie About the Hurt”, “Lightspeed”, “Little Bird Tomorrow”, “Angel Made Hurt”, “Last Kiss”. After the release of a second single titled “Lightspeed” on November 12, 2020 production of the album stopped until December 27th of 2020. The album theme and title song “Angel Made Hurt” was written on a piano. This song took months to re-record. A promo video short was released for this song as a piano rock instrumental before it was re-written with lyrical verse/chorus steps. During the break in recording, the studio was set up in a different format and songs such as “How Do I Save You?”, “Let Me Hurt”, and “Little River” and all other tracks were written a at a faster pace.

The song “Fly Free” was the first song to be written for this album on August 07, 2020. It was also the last song to be mixed and edited closing the Angel Made Hurt recording sessions on April 09, 2021.

'Angel Made Hurt' was made available everywhere for digital stores and streaming distribution on April 21, 2021. Joshua Runk recorded and produced the Angel Made Hurt album at Starlight Studios for the second time. Instead of issuing a special edition record for the Angel Made Hurt record, J.J. Starlight Music released five singles that were written during post-production for the second studio album: “Hero”; “Something Beautiful 2.0”; “Hero (Uncut)”; “Little Starlight”; “Elate”.

Joshua Runk has brought No Angels In Providence into composing music for animators in 2023.

Singer/Songwriter Joshua Aaron Runk was educated in music composition and performed as an alto saxophone player beginning in elementary school and then moving on as a tenor saxophonist through high school and local jazz bands outside of school. While performing jazz Joshua learned to play the guitar using his Brother Jon’s classical guitar. During a transition from performing jazz live and learning guitar, 1980’s era and 1990’s underground rap music became a great musical influence for lyrical compositions. It was something not taught in music education classes at school. Joshua would discover many legendary rap artists which were broadcast in the early 1990’s each Sunday night in Southern New England. Joshua’s first concert was a classic large roadshow of artists as Public Enemy was on tour with Naughty By Nature, DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte at the Providence Civic Center (recently changed from the Dunkin Donuts Center to the Amica Mutual Pavilion). The lyrical story building and energy of rap music from the 1980’s - 1990’s still influence what No Angels In Providence creates musically. Death metal was introduced by friends and other musicians at age 16. The Headbangers Ball on MTV became a new found introduction into different styles of rock music and a way to become a part of what would the core music scene in Providence, Rhode Island. While taking the bus to Providence, RI, Joshua watched {punk rock, hardcore, ska, rap core, death metal} bands fill each club during the week and weekends. All these original bands had created a new sound within rock/punk/rap as well as what was left of what people still called grunge… “It was the greatest experience to see each week. The records in our regular music stores did not sell what was being played live each night in Providence, RI and Boston, MA. Most musicians I knew went to a music store in Warwick, RI to purchase underground albums. It was amazing to learn of so many bands and the effort they put into their albums. If you didn’t find what you were looking for, the record store (which is closed now) would find a copy from distributors and record labels in New England.”

At age 18 he was the last member to officially form the extreme metal band Ichor. They performed their first club show November 09, 1996 at Club Babyhead in Providence, Rhode Island opening for the band Earth Crisis. *(Pictures of that show are available in the No Angels in Providence Photo Gallery) The band changed their name to Icor in 1997 before releasing their first debut album ‘King of Hell’ which went on to receive radio play on 94HJY in southern New England, U.S. with the song “Kingdom Zero”.

In 1999 Joshua joined the Rhode Island based hardcore band At Any Cost. An enormous highlight while performing with At Any Cost was playing at the first ever New England Metal and Hardcore Festival in Worcester, Massachusetts. At Any Cost had a slot in the upstairs club that weekend. Joshua toured with At Any Cost to support their studio album ‘Seen Through Shattered Eyes’.

Joshua left the east coast to write music/record with country and rhythm and blues vocalists until 2008. After a personal hiatus and time composing new material in 2015, Joshua created the industrial electronica project ‘Leave No Music Behind’ which produced an underground EP titled “Petals” released in 2017. The album is still available at Starlight Studios in Rhode Island.

Joshua Runk began building Starlight Studios in 2015. The studio helped record the first album for No Angels In Providence and officially recorded and produced the second and third full length records, singles and EP’s. Starlight Studios began its partnership with the publishing company J.J. Starlight Music in 2021. Starlight Studios has recorded and produced 40 official titles for J.J. Starlight Music and No Angels In Providence. J.J. Starlight Music is a licensed publisher with American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP).

Music has helped me through the toughest times. Sometimes more help is needed to find your way again.

The You Are Not Alone initiative was created by No Angels In Providence to help shine a light, for each individual, with a message of hope. There are people feeling these same feelings each day and night. You are not alone. Many times in my life when I felt lost and looked for comfort, obstacles were there creating a path in my life that I found difficult to understand. I did not know what to do or how to express how I truly felt inside.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline are available 24/7 to help if those feelings become overwhelming and you are in need of someone to listen to how you feel inside. Healthcare, therapy, and support are not always available for everyone. Veterans and the homeless communities all over the United States and world.
